As we gather to celebrate the Morehouse College Class of 1985’s milestone reunion, there is no setting more fitting than the historic Herndon Home — an enduring monument to vision, perseverance, and Black excellence. This reunion is more than a celebration of time passed; it is a tribute to the legacy that continues to shape our present and our promise for the future.
It is with deep pride that Atlanta Life Insurance Company and Pantheon extend a warm welcome to the Class of ’85. Your gathering at the Herndon Home is symbolic—an intersection of legacy and leadership. It was here that Alonzo Franklin Herndon, born into slavery and driven by unwavering ambition, built not just a home, but a movement. From founding Atlanta Life in 1905, Mr.
Herndon laid the foundation for generations of Black enterprise, empowerment, and civic engagement.
Atlanta Life stands today as the only remaining Black-founded and continuously operating life insurance company from that era, a living testament to Mr. Herndon’s enduring vision. Our mission has always been clear: to ensure that economic dignity and opportunity remain within reach for our communities.
Pantheon, whose commitment to innovation and excellence in financial services aligns closely with Mr. Herndon’s legacy, is proud to partner with Atlanta Life in honoring this moment. Together, we recognize that while much has changed since 1905, our collective responsibility to uplift, to lead, and to leave a legacy remains constant.
The Morehouse Class of 1985 embodies that legacy. You are leaders across industry, culture, education, and beyond. This homecoming is not only a look back—it is a recommitment to the future. As you walk the halls of the Herndon Home, may you be reminded of the power of one man’s vision and inspired to continue building your own.
With deep respect and in shared purpose,
