How am I, as an event producer, managing my own health and well-being? My own mental health and well-being? Because it is a fast-paced industry, it is a high-stress industry. And it’s one of those industries where we’re working with people nonstop, which means we’re working with personalities, right? Which means we’re working with attitudes, which means we work with all these different things. And on top of that, as an event producer, a wedding planner, someone who has a venue, a caterer, a DJ, whomever, you are serving. So, in your mind, you’re wondering, how is my service going to impact this individual? Because if they don’t like it, they could potentially do something detrimental to my business, because my money is dependent on that person and how they feel. We are people pleasers at the end of the day, right? We want people to be pleased by what we’re producing for them. And so sometimes that can lead to a lot of stress for those who are in this industry. And it has.

“As a mental health professional, but also as an event producer, I’ve obviously felt the excitement in the industry, but I’ve also felt the anxiety of the industry.”

Event Therapy Network

The events industry in itself is ranked number five this year as top stressful jobs or industries that one could be in, under the police department, over the military, so that tells you right there something about it. So as a mental health professional, but also as an event producer, I’ve obviously felt the excitement in the industry, but I’ve also felt the anxiety of the industry. I knew what it meant or what was happening to me, because I’m in the field of mental health. But there were many of my colleagues who were not. They didn’t understand why they were feeling reluctant to go inside of the building, or why their stomach started hurting when they were thinking about this in regards to the event. Many of them were having panic attacks and didn’t know that a panic attack was taking place.

They didn’t know where it was coming from, nor did they understand what to do with it. So obviously, me as a mental health professional, I know many of these signs, I know many of the triggers, I know coping strategies, and things of that nature. It was only natural for me to bring these two disciplines together, these two industries together, so as professionals in the industry we can begin to work through some of our things that we keep behind the drapes because we don’t want anybody to know that we are stressed out or that we’re feeling some kind of way. So it was only natural for me to say you know what, how can I save us so that we can continue to save lives through smiles. How could I do that? And that’s how Event Therapy™ was kind of born.
