A familiar buzz electrifies the air at The Gathering Spot (TGS). Not just the hum of conversation or the clinking of silverware, but an undeniable energy thrumming through the space – the anticipation of a new beginning. After a period of transition, The Gathering Spot returns to its cornerstone, its heart and soul: the visionary guidance of its co-founders, Ryan Wilson and TK Petersen.
“Reaquiring this business, I think some folks think it was an automatic, well it wasn’t,” Wilson confesses. “To do what? Are we the right people at the right time to drive the things we want to drive? After a lot of reflection, we think we are. So, we’re ging to work that way knowing that this community deserves it.”
This homecoming isn’t simply a return to familiar faces, but a bold leap into a future carefully crafted by those who know this community best. To mark this pivotal moment, Ryan and TK invite you to a Town Hall event: a space to share their ambitious vision, forged through deep listening and unwavering dedication to the values that built The Gathering Spot.
More than just a gathering space, The Gathering Spot has always been a haven for connection, collaboration, and empowerment. Now, under the renewed leadership of its founders, this mission takes on a renewed focus, grounded in three strategic pillars:
1. Amplifying Community: Building upon the strong foundation of shared purpose, The Gathering Spot will double down on fostering meaningful connections and engagement. Expect vibrant events, dynamic mentorship programs, and initiatives that bring diverse voices to the forefront.
2. Igniting Innovation: The entrepreneurial spirit that defines The Gathering Spot will be further fueled. Expect resources, accelerators, and collaborative platforms designed to nurture ideas, propel ventures, and empower the next generation of changemakers.
3. Championing Impact: The pursuit of positive change runs deep within The Gathering Spot’s DNA. This focus will be amplified, with a renewed commitment to social responsibility, environmental awareness, and initiatives that create a ripple effect of positive impact beyond the walls of the community.
“This was something that I said I wanted to last for generations to come, and if I felt that me being there was important for that to happen, than I should return,” explains Petersen. The co-founder controversially left the organization in July of 2023, after rumors surfaced that he was fired a year after TGS was acquired by Greenwood, a mobile banking platform designed to serve Black and Latinx clientele. This disruption led to The Gathering Spot’s credibility and vision for the future to be questioned. 25% of the loyal membership severed their ties.
“The reason we’re here is because, I’ve always believed that the ultimate thing we could do is create an institution, and I hope that the Gathering Spots can be come an institution for generations to come. To provide the blessing that it has done for me, that has transformed my life in ways that I can’t even articulate.”
The Town Hall is not just an announcement; it’s an invitation. An invitation to step into this new chapter alongside Ryan and TK, to co-create a future where connections spark innovation, ideas blossom into impact, and the collective energy of this vibrant community propels positive change on a grand scale.
