Salli Richardson-Whitfield is a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood. She’s a talented actress, director, and producer who has worked on some of the biggest projects in the industry. Her latest project is the HBO Max series “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty,” which chronicles the rise of the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1980s. She said, “I grew up in Los Angeles in the 1980s, and it was a very special time. It was a time of great change and upheaval, but it was also a time of great creativity and innovation. I wanted to capture that feeling in ‘Winning Time.'”
- Richardson-Whitfield faced some challenges as a Black woman directing a show about the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1980s. She said, “It was a challenge to be the only Black woman in the room a lot of the time. But I also felt a responsibility to represent my community and to tell a story that would be authentic and meaningful.”
- Richardson-Whitfield was rewarded by the experience of directing “Winning Time.” She said, “It was an incredible experience to be able to direct a show about the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1980s. It was a show that I was passionate about, and I was able to put my own stamp on it. I’m very proud of the work that we did.”
