The 2023 IdOMUSIC 5K run/walk took place on Saturday, August 26, 2023, in Home Park, Atlanta. The event was organized by IdOMUSIC, a non-profit organization that promotes music education and the arts in Atlanta. IdOMUSIC is powered by Patchwerk Recording Studios.
V-103 radio DJ Greg Street hosted the energetic community event while broadcasting live on the airwaves. This 5K was sponsored included Patchwerk Recording Studios, City of Atlanta, Block Ent., Local Green Atlanta, Barbour Orthopaedics, V-103, Fleet Feet (Canton), SG Cares, Bey & Associates, Walmart, IDoFilm, and AcknowledgeMINT.
The race started and ended at Patchwerk Recording Studios, the legendary recording studio in Atlanta that has hosted some of the biggest names in music, including Beyoncé, Outkast, Usher, Mariah Carey, Jay-Z, Timbaland, Whitney Houston, and T.I. This year the studio celebrated its 28th anniversary, and the IdOMUSIC 5K is a way to celebrate its contributions to the Atlanta music scene. Prior to this event, IdOMUSIC had produced two prior 5K races in 2015 and 2016.
“This year I got a call from some people at the City of Atlanta, saying they had some funds set aside to celebrate hip-hop’s 50th anniversary, and they said if there’s anything you want to do, this would be the time and we’ll match funds with you,” explains Patchwerk Recording Studios co-owner, Curtis Daniel. “So they sent me a list of all of the events going on in the city this year, and I looked at it, and it was the same thing. It was parties, with hookahs, with drinks, with liquor, and I’m like, ‘Man, we have to do something different for our people, and give them different options.’ I said if I’m gonna do something we’ll dust off the 5K.”

“Months ago when Curtis started flirting with the possibility of IdOMUSIC doing a 5K with the City of Atlanta to provide a healthy alternative to celebrate Hip-Hop’s 50th anniversary, I was immediately all in,” recalled AcknowledgeMINT’s Adell Henderson. “The first 5K we collaborated on in 2015 was to celebrate Patchwerk’s 20 year anniversary. We came right back in 2016 with the ‘Race to Remember’ 5K theme to raise money for Kate’s Club and the Atlanta Humane Society, while celebrating the lives of loved ones we’ve lost. I’m looking forward to the next one.”
The race was open to runners of all ages and abilities, and awards were distributed for the top three finishers in each age group. This 5K was a fun and healthy way to get moving, to celebrate the arts, and to support IdOMUSIC’s music education programs.
